Charley's Aunt! ADG's STAGE DEBUT!! – Articles of a Domestic Goddess

February 14th 2014, Articles of a Domestic Goddess had their stage debut! It was seriously the most honored I have been in my life. I was contracted to make a shawl and fingerless gloves for a show that would present at Katy Visual and Performing Arts Center in Katy off Mason Road. (KVPAC.org) Katy Visual and Performing Arts Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization dedicated to the education and accessibility of Theater, Visual Arts and Music programs to children, teens and adults since 2001. Their existence in this world is so very important. The time I spent as a youth learning the performing arts shaped me as a human being, an individual and to this day it is a part of my soul. I will proudly support any venture this center decides to embark on.

I watched the show and it was BRILLIANT! It was well acted. The time that went into not only the presentation, but the acting and the costumes showed in the performance. It was affordable enough that I could do it every weekend and it was set perfectly so that I could bring my nieces and nephews to see something amazing that could change their lives. My niece specifically has vision problems, so the smaller theater would be ideal for someone like her. It would be close enough that they would pay attention and not just let their minds wander and start to get antsy. The Little Mermaid looks like it’s being auditioned for, I think I’ll try to make that one with my niece!

I wish it were closer for my son, who is very well suited for it, so that he could take some classes or participate in some of their free workshops. They offer those pretty often too.

So on to my shawl and gloves 🙂 I made them and had them on hand for a while, I couldn’t stop putting on the gloves. lol They looked so pretty on my hands! lol The shawl was to look elegant, but antique, like he had pulled it out of his grandmother’s closet. To give a little back story on the play: Two young gentlemen have love interests, who they want to invite to lunch to profess their love, but cannot without chaperones. An aunt of one of the gentlemen will be in town (who happens to be handsomely rich) and so they plan the lunch on the contingency that she will be stepping off her train promptly before the luncheon. Her arrival is postponed. But they happen to have a male friend on hand (who comes over directly before the luncheon to show his dress he will be wearing in a play where he will play a woman)! … And so he impersonates the aunt so that they may have a chaperone. There is added humor in that he has facial hair and an oddly high pitched voice… it really was one of the funnier things I’ve seen acted on stage.

When I saw it on stage I literally started crying. It was such a triumphant moment for me. I put a lot of myself into everything that I do. I can’t do something half, I HAVE to do my best that I can do. It’s a driving force. I also struggle with that part of me as it can be a burden. All the appreciation that I feel for those of you who have supported me just bled out of me at the moment when I saw them on stage. I just cannot convey in the written word the appreciation, honor and awe I feel for those of you who continually offer your support to me and Articles of a Domestic Goddess.

This speaks volumes to me. I know to some of you it’s just crochet, but to me, it’s my paintbrush as i cannot paint, it’s my music bar as I cannot compose or my stage, as surely NO ONE in their right mind wants to see me act. lol
