Computer-Based Education (Not Umbrella Programs)
Online versions - Online isn't a style, and there are many different philosophies amongst the online programs. Some are free, some are not. Some are classical in feel and some are traditional or even unschooling in philosophy.
- Monarch and Switched on Schoolhouse (linked to alpha omega) are online and pay only. They are Classical in feel.
- Easy peasy is a favorite as it is free, has a unit study feel and is complete and it's free. It's a great resource for trying to deschool your child, and turn off that public school mind and turn on some great learning links! It's a great option if you know you are transitioning to a more classical education model. It also has options and information about CLEP - college level education during high school years. Not taught through video. This curriculum is like - if you were to gather the best options all over the internet to teach and put them together.
- Discovery k12 does the same way, but it does feel less complete, and it is very much traditional. Writing lists will be common. Free, but can be tedious.
- Khan academy Khan can be a complete program, or it is easy with this program, to pull random coursework. Free - I use this for myself even. Very nice.
- MobyMax (mm is common core aligned) spouts that it can fill in blank spots in a previously public school educated child who might have missed something, but I have seen no proof of that. Dedicated parents who take time are usually able to fill in holes in education much better than a program in my experience. Colorful screens, games, parents can pay a monthly fee and get reports.
