Links to find books in public domain for free

  • Gateway to the Classics - The best books can be found for free in the public domain. This website compiles a vast number of these in pdf and audio book format for your ease of use.
  • World of Tales - Find Stories for children, folktales and fairy tales from all cultures and time periods.
  • American Literature - So many classic stories, tales, novels here for free.
  • LibriVox- Biggest compilation of free audio books. Download the phone app or listen online. You can also read. You can find just about anything here.
  • Public Domain Books for Homeschooling - Non Discussion Facebook Group - Admin posts resource links - VERY big list here.
  • Amazon Kindle App - Most Classical Novels can be found here for free! I have over 4,000 in my kindle and they were all free. Great for homeschoolers.
  • Overdrive - Get ebooks from your local library here
  • Interlibrary loan - This is the link for interlibrary loan for Texas, BUT it can be found in every area. (Click Texas Group Catalog) Interlibrary loan means that if your library system for your county or city does not have the book, they will FIND it in ALL libraries in the area, university libraries, city, county, etc. and send it to your library for pick up! Easy peasy. Just place a hold using your county library card number and they will send it to the library you specify.
  • My Audio School - WIDE range of books here. Great history selections.

Other English Related Resources

  • Read aloud Revival - I put this under "other" but it is probably the most useful of all the reading resources! Just READ to your children. There was a study done and 1 thing was a precursor to high scoring as high schoolers - it was whether they were read to as young children. READ to your children! Every day.
  • Public Poetry Readings at Houston Library 1st Saturday of every month at 2pm. You might use your discretion with these, as they may be more adult in nature at times, but listening to poetry live might be the thing you need to interest your child in poetry!
  • Scripps Spelling Bee - Homeschool support groups or co-ops can enroll in the Scripps National Spelling Bee!
  • Narration - If you are conducting a Charlotte Mason Homeschool, you might want to listen to this podcast about what narration is and what it is not.
  • Literati - Book club for kids - like a monthly subscription - get books in - read the books - buy the books you like.
  • BookPagez - Build your own reading curriculum - lesson plans here also. Teaching resources for popular and award winning children's books.
